FAQ: I see that this dryer is rated as low noise. Who measures the noise levels and how? |
When we say a dryer is quiet, or low noise, we mean that it has an operating noise level that is relatively lower than other dryers in it's class. Typically this noise level is reported by the manufacturer in decibles (dB). It is helpful to keep in mind that the noise that a dryer produces comes from two sources: the first is the dryer motor itself and the second is the jet of air as it flows over your hands. For example, a dryer can have a quiet motor, but a really concentrated jet of air which makes a lot of noise. To further complicate things, there are no uniform standards for testing a hand dryer. So manufacturers may use different methods for testing (possibly designed to reflect more positively on their own products). In general, though, a dB rating of less than 70, means a dryer will be on the quieter side, whereas one with a rating of 85 dB or higher will be louder. Another indication of noise level will be the type of nozzle on the dryer. A larger opening will create less noise as the air hits your hands than smaller (more focused) opening. For the same reason, a wider oval shaped nozzle creates less noise than a circular nozzle. |
This dryer is rated for light to moderate use applications and accepts 110-120V, 50/60 Hz power (the most common type). CE and cULus approved.
